Funding Proposals - CACSSF • Over $3M in one time or short-term funding and $1M in ongoing funding for student services, student programs and campus life • Any program, department, unit can apply through the GA • Next deadline is early January • Current proposals include: • SPH Lounge; Security for Bechtel Lounge; TRSP Resources, Deferred Action Advisor, Multicultural Showcase, etc. • http://budget.berkeley.edu/studentfees/index.html
Online Funding Application • Update on creation of online funding application for ASUC and GA student organizations • Streamlining application process between ASUC and GA • Hackathon planned for Nov. 17 • Alternative: IS&T to build program • Aiming to have pilot for Round 2 funding
Vote Events • Rock the Vote Concert –Saturday, November 3rd at 7pm • Memorial Glade, FREE • Performers: Super Mash Bros, Classixx, and Mystery Skulls • Election Viewing Party – Tuesday, November 6th at 6pm • Upper Sproul, FREE • Bring chairs, blankets and watch nat’l and state election results • Free cotton candy and popcorn
Tuition Increases? • Prop 30 failure means $250M cuts for UC • UCOP has said this will likely mean 20.5% fee increases in Januaryfollowed by 15% increases each year for at least 3 years • Regents vote on fee increases in November 13-15 Meeting • No Bullshit Budget Forum – Wed, November 7, at 6:30pm • Learn about current budget situation at Berkeley and what admin plans to prioritize in the future, with Q & A • Impact on students given Prop 30 pass/fail • Impact on academics (e.g. class sizes, faculty recruitment, etc)
Nov. 8 Day of Action • Action in support of restoring public education • Rally planned at noon on Sproul Plaza • Followed by General Assembly and further action • Sponsors include UAW (GSI union) • Know your rights as a GSI and as a student • I will send out an email about this next week • Know Student Code of Conduct and campus regulations about protest activity
Diversity at Cal • New figures from UCSC show Cal is doing worst in UC on diversity measures among incoming undergrads
Why should we care? • Diversity is also an issue in the grad community • This is an academic issue as much as a campus climate issue • Academic Senate and Grad Division committed to working on this issue so it’s a unique time to do something • Hate crimes and intolerance still happen regularly • We should think about this in our advocacy work and in our work with campus committees
