Lobe Pumps • Lobe Pumps are rotating, fixed volume, positive displacement pumps. • Basic components include • Inlet • Outlet • Lobes
Operation:Step 1 • Rotation of lobes • Creation of expanding volume • Suction effect • Fluid entrapment
Operation:Step 2 • Liquid flows between walls
Operation:Step 3 • Lobes re-mesh • Fluid forced out by pressure
Operating Conditions • Operating Pressure • 50—300 psi • Volume • 0—600 gpm • Rotational Speed • 500—1000 rpm • Suction lift • Up to 25 ft.
Advantages • Able to mass medium solids • No metal to metal connectivity • Non pulsating discharge • High sanitary qualities • High efficiency, reliability • Good clean-in-place/service-in-place qualities
Disadvantages • Requires timing gears • Requires two seals • Lower viscosity fluids lower the suction lift
Industrial Uses • Sanitation • Food Services • Pharmaceutical • Beverage
