Preview of SharePoint 2010 Michael Curry
Mobility with SP2010 • The current version of SP is self-contained • SP2010 will offer greater flexibility • Ability to email documents and have changes to the document synchronize back to SP • Support for mobile devices to edit documents and save back to SP • Synchronization – download a copy of a SP site • Integrated into Office 2010 • Allows you to work on SP while traveling • Re-synch once reconnected to the network • BUT this means waiting for upload/download
Better Browser Support • More features will be supported in other browsers besides just IE • Most likely, only IE will support ALL features • Edit docs within the browser • Excel, Word, Power Point, will also be browser based • No need to have Office in order to use SP • Office Ribbon bar standard
New Features Multi-lingual support –ability to change your language preference Enterprise wide search to include documents Wiki everywhere-ability to edit pages in place Social tagging –adding keywords to content My site –includes blogs, status updates, friends, photos etc.
Workflow Improvements Initiate a workflow on multiple docs instead of individual workflows for each document Custom workflow logic expressed in Visio Logic exported from Visio into SharePoint designer where forms can also be added Workflows can be copied from one SP site to another
Workflow Improvements Visualization in Visio shows graphical display of workflow progress Workflow is an opportunity for MIS students Business users need to create powerful solutions without requiring the IT group’s active participation
