Biography Report on Garret Morgan Garret Morgan was born on March 4 ,1877 in Paris ,Kentucky. When he was a child he went to school and helped on the family farm. When he was 18 years old he went to Cincinnati in 1895. In that same year he married Madge Nelson but got divorced two years later. In 1907 he got married the second time to Mary Hasek and had three sons named John Pier point, Garret Jr. and Cosmos Henry. It was 1908 when Garret Morgan joined the Constitution Association of Colored Men. The group was for colored people to be treated equally. Four years later Garret Morgan made the great invention, the gas mask because on July 25 ,1916 an explosion was in Lake Erie, Ohio. Garret and his brother ran to the place the workers were trapped in.In 1916 the gas mask went on National News. Garret Morgan started the newspaper called, Cleveland Call in 1920. One day Garret Morgan saw a car and a horse carriage crash. To fix this problem from happening, Garret Morgan invented the traffic light in 1922. The next year the government gave Garret Morgan a patent for his idea. The General Electric Company wanted to pay Garret 40,000 dollars to buy his patent that same year. Garret Morgan died July 27 ,1963 in Cleveland ,Ohio but he is still remembered for his inventions and his work.
