  4. ME AND MY BODY MAYA GABEIRA Brocken bones, a twisted back, and life-threatening asthma turns out being the first lady of big surf isn’t just glam cover shoots, ardent suitors and sun-kissed beaches. HARD KNOCK LIFE In October 2008, she broke her nose pulling into a barrel. The board came back into her face in the water. She came up, and felt blood in a gash. She felt like she was going to pass out, so she raised her hand and saw fellow surfer Eraldo Gueiros go by on the ski, and as he looked into her eyes she passed out, the next thing she knows is she's in the back of an ambulance with her mom and the first thing she asks is ‘when can I surf again?’ Obviously that’s the first question after every injury she's ever had.

  5. SARAH WALKER “I JUST DON’T WANT TO RIDE LIKE A GIRL” The NO.1 ranked BMX rider in the world is gunning for another title this year, but she's also firmly set her sights on winning gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games It started when matt walker let his little sister ride his BMX when she was 10 years old, within a couple of months of getting a bike of her own, walker won the first of 12 national titles. Now the 22-year-old measures herself against the best male riders in the country because no girls can keep up with her. “The plan is to treat this year’s race in London as if it were the Olympics, so next year its just like any other race” ‘I don’t think I've ever lived a normal life, at school every spare minute was spent on my bike. My whole life has been about trying to be the best’
