The NFER Study: Work in Progress • Purpose: Looking at the Leadership of School Improvement: • How systems, strategies and support are evolving in England • Particular focus on school to school support. • Draws on high performing systems international evidence • Interviews with national stakeholders. • 5 Case Studies: • Four LAs: York, Brighton and Hove, Wigan and Hertfordshire • One School Led Partnership: Southend Educational Trust
Emerging Findings from the Case Studies • School to school support can be one of the main methods for delivering improvement for all schools • Potentially more cost effective for LAs but the system requires investment and evaluation • Schools need a range of base and strategic networks which are flexible in responding to schools’ changing needs • 6 key drivers emerged , made real by good leadership and an engaged staff: • Relationships • Purpose • Vision and Strategy • Evaluation and Challenge • Systems • Sustainability
