Program Core Components Kick-off Event & Check-in’s– begins September 10, 2014 on the Quad, 10am-2pm Training – twice weekly begins September 16, 2014 Event - The 5th Annual Crimson Couch to 5K (3.1mi) Walk/Run is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2014 Partnering with Roll Tide Run Homecoming Race 1 2 3
Training Locations & Times Crimson Couch to 5K Trainings begin Tuesday, September 16 • Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays • Times: 6:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. & 5:15 p.m. • Locations: Outdoor Pool Complex – 6:00 a.m. The Quad/Denny Chimes – 12:00 p.m. The Quad/Denny Chimes – 5:15 p.m. *Trainers available for both walking and running groups. Group Training will be led by the Health and Wellness Team and the Exercise Physiology Club.
Crimson Couch 5K Run/Walk Event Agenda 5K Run/Walk Event Partnering with Roll Tide Run Homecoming Week Event Sunday, November 16, 2014 Onsite Registration and Packet pick up begins Pre-registration check-in Pre-event activities and warm up Line up at the start Crimson Couch to 5K/10K & UA Roll Tide Run begins Couch to 5K Event Costs: 5K Run/Walk Event will be freeto UA faculty & staff enrolled in the Crimson Couch to 5K training program as well as children of participants under the age of 18. $10 fee for UA faculty, staff, spouses, and others who are not enrolled in the Crimson Couch to 5K training program, and $15 fee on-site registration for all others.
Organization and Roles • Office of Health Promotion and Wellness: Provide program planning, communication, delivery and evaluation of the program. • Wellness Ambassadors: Representatives from each college/school/ division will oversee the promotion of the program, recruit and support Team Captains, and act as a liaison between the OHPW and Crimson Couch to 5K participants. • Team Captains: Recruit and motivate team members, encourage participation at check-ins, training, the event, and help monitor progress. • Team Members: Support each other, motivate one another and take responsibility for participating and completing the weekly workout assignments.
14 Ways to Recruit Terrific Teams & Participants: • Do it with passion: Enthusiasm is contagious • Share your personal reasons • Recruit at work, at home and in our community (Event open to all) • Arrange an employee presentation at work • Tell co-workers the 7 Benefits of participating • Set up challenges & competition between departments • Make it personal: have your team determine a cause for which you are walking (for a health reason, a person) • Create a team theme. Tap your creativity. Come up with a unique name • Host your own kick off party and wrap up celebration • Get the word out. Put up Crimson Couch to 5K posters • Champion the efforts by creating walking teams during lunch • Invite a speaker to come help promote activities • Have fun • Use social media to create cool team/department campaigns
