  2. Definition • Delivery of data and computing as a service. • You’ve used cloud computing: • If you’ve ever uploaded your research to a service like World Tree or Ancestry Family Tree, • If you’ve used GoogleDocs • If you’ve accessed your email via a web browser

  3. Common Applications • Storage • File Sharing • Synchronization • Backups

  4. File Sharing • There are many to choose from: • Most have a model of a small amount of free space, with larger amounts available for a fee. • Sizes range from 2G to 7Gb for free. • Two Biggest Issues: • Security • Longevity • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keeps stuff safe)
