The ICT Research Infrastructure Development Programme 2007- 2013 • Vision of a further development of the e-Infrastucture in Poland • The ICT Research Infrastructure Development Programme 2007- 2013 • preparation and consultations (January - June 2007) • cooperation: ICT Infrastructure Expert Group (ZII), PIONIER Consortium, Ministry of Science and Higher Education • adopted on 28 June 2007
Objectives of the Programme (I) • Provide advanced network infrastructure to ensure equal opportunities of the network access for all research entities in Poland • Support the development of services and infrastructure in High Performance Computing Centers • Set up a pool of universal tools and services of the middleware/grid level, which will allow to achieve the integration of aplications and services of the upper level
Objectives of the Programme(II) • Develop advanced ICT services and applications for research community in Poland (e-Science) • Support development and implementation of ICT solutions in diverse application domains: e-Education, e-Health, e-Government etc.
Activities eligible for funding (I) • Investments in the development of scientific network infrastructure and ICT equipment • Development of supercomputing centers leading to creation of more advanced infrastructures, services and tools for the research community (including also support for grid projects) • Provide researchers with continuous and common access to knowledge management systems and e-Science resources (e.g. support to the Virtual Library of Science)
Activities eligible for funding (II) • Provide connectivity to GÉANT network and transboundary links to the neighbouring countries • Other important activities related to the development of e-Science
Sources of funding • SCIENCE BUDGET (Ministry of Science and Higher Education) • STRUCTURAL FUNDS (Operational Programme Innovative Economy 2007-2013)
National funding • Calls for proposals announced every year by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education • Institutions eligible for funding: higher education establishments, research institutes
EU-Structural Funds for e-Science (I) • e-Science projects supported by the Structural Funds: • Development of e-Infrastructures • Digital content, scientific repositories and databases • Advanced ICT applications and services • Budget (2007-2013): ~ € 260 M • 85% EU resources • 15% Polish co-funding (Science budget)
EU-Structural Funds for e-Science (II) • 3 Calls for proposals envisaged (2008, 2009, 2010) • 1st Call closed on 29 August’08 (budget € 80 M) • projects of transregional and countrywide coverage • proposals under evaluation • first contracts expected in 2009
