Alerting influent players to the “key issues” of this industry and persuading them to conduct due course of action Mission of APRITEL • To contribute to develop telecommunications in Portugal promoting studies, seminaries, and other sorts of public relation activities • To support the quality improvement of the telecommunications commercial offer to consumers, encouraging new and better services and informing the public of their advantages • To facilitate dialogue and experience sharing between Telecommunication Operators and with the Portuguese authorities • To promote relations with foreign Telecom Operators, with other industry Associations, and with other international entities, namely from the EU • To strive for a progressive liberalization of the telecommunications industry in Portugal • To promote conditions for a more efficient and fair interconnection between operators • To promote a regulatory and competitive framework to induce an efficient telecommunications market APRITEL Introducing APRITEL Source: APRITEL

APRITEL has selected 11 priorities for 2007-2008 (1/4) 1 Separation of the cable business from the incumbent Objective: ensure that the cable business spin-off from the incumbent reflects a stockholders structure that motivates effective competition between both networks. Time frame: 2007 2 Functional separation of the copper network business Objective: promote the functional separation of the incumbent’s traditional copper business to provide non-discriminating access to the legacy network Time frame: 2007 3 Next Generation Networks / Next Generation Access Objective: propose a solution that induces modernization of the telecommunications infrastructure while improving conditions for an effective competitive environment Time frame: 2007-2008 APRITEL Introducing APRITEL
