Year 10 & 11 are big years for students at SVC. Currently there is nowhere for them to relax at break and lunchtimes or before exams. Research has shown that having an area for students to chill out, relax and socialise away from the rest of school massively improved their performance across school. Soham Village College have given us the challenge of designing and modelling a common room that best fits the students’ needs. problem challenge Back
You will be working in groups of 4/5 on the project. Discuss your skills to decide who would be good at the model making, the computer design, project manger, creative designer, interiors, exteriors etc. It is down to you to decide who does what, but you must prove that everyone contributed. To have a successful project you will produce the following: A final design on Google Sketch-Up (The best presentations will have designs for inside and outside A scale model of your building- made from wood/plastic/card etc. A professional presentation of your idea and the reasons behind it What? You will pick the location for the common room. But there are a few things to think about…. The maximum ‘footprint’ is 15m x 15m If you want power then it must be no further than 50 meters away from a school building Your design shouldn’t block the windows/ doors of other buildings Are there any obstacles in the way that would have to be removed? Where? Back
You will have until the end of Summer term to complete the project including preparing your Dragons Den style presentation. There will be smaller deadlines along the way and you will be logging what you do in each lesson to help you with your time management. When? Back
The presentation should; • Introduce your group members and their roles in the project • Be approximately 5 minutes long • Contain details of your final design and reasons behind it (research you did) • Be of a professional nature The presentation Back

Is it going to be one big space or split into different rooms? What do you want it to look like? Will it have toilets? Can disabled people easily access it? Is it on one floor or more?
