  2. Overview • Large Spiny Animal with a mixture of spines and fur • Nocturnal • 17 Different species • Pig like snout, numerous spines

  3. Habitat • Found through parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand • No native hedgehogs in Australia or North America, and they were introduced to New Zealand Europe Asia Africa New Zealand

  4. Food • Omnivores • Mixture of plant and animal matter to maintain a balanced diet • Meat • Small lizards, snakes, frogs, snails, bird eggs • Plants • Mushrooms, grass roots, berries, and melons

  5. Fun Facts • When threatened, they will roll into a ball with it’s spines facing outwards • Some will ram with their spines when threatened • It is becoming more and more common for them to be kept as pets because of their calm demeanor and how they get along well with other domesticated animals. • They will eat any dog or cat food left out with a preference to chicken flavors
