    1. Daniel 9:15-27 Daniel’s Prayer and God’s Redemptive Plan

    3. The Tension In Daniel 9 The promises of God seem to be in jeopardy Seed promise (Genesis 12:7; 15:5) Land (Genesis 12:7; 15:18-21) Nation (Genesis 12:2; 17:4) Blessing to all the nations (Genesis 12:3) Structure Daniel 9:1-14 Confession Daniel 9:15-19 Supplication Daniel 9:20-27 Divine answer

    4. Israel’s Sin Brings Reproach To Yahweh’s Name Daniel 9:15 And now, O Lord our God, who have brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and have made a name for Yourself, as it is this day- we have sinned, we have been wicked.

    5. Israel’s Sin Brings Reproach To Yahweh’s Name Daniel 9:16 O Lord, in accordance with all Your righteousness, let now Your anger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain, for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach to all those around us.

    6. Restoration: For the Messiah’s Sake Daniel 9:17 So now, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant and to his supplications, and for the Lord’s sake, shine Your face upon Your desolate sanctuary.

    7. Evidence Daniel 9:17 Is a Messianic Reference Daniel 9:17 Daniel speaks to Yahweh (2nd person) Daniel switches to 3rd person “for Adonai’s sake” Psalm 110:1 Yahweh said to my Adonai: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

    8. The People of God and Jerusalem “Bear His Name” Daniel 9:18-19 O my God, incline Your ear and hear Open Your eyes and see our desolations and the city which is called by Your name; for we are not presenting our supplication before You on account of our righteousness, but on account of Your great compassion. O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! For Your own sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.

    9. God’s Answer Comes To Daniel Daniel 9:20-21 Now while I was speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God, while I was still speaking in prayer, then the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision previously, came to me in my extreme weariness about the time of the evening offering.

    10. God’s Answer Comes To Daniel Daniel 9:22-23 He gave me instruction and talked with me and said, “ O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with understanding. At the beginning of your supplications the command was issued, and I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed; so give heed to the message and gain understanding of the vision.”

    11. God’s Redemptive Plan For Israel Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.

    12. Summary Of What God Will Accomplish Daniel 9:24 Finish transgression Make an end of sin (kattat) Make atonement for iniquity Bring in righteousness Seal up prophesy Anoint most holy place

    13. The 70 Weeks of Years (490 years) Daniel 9:25 So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress. Decree: Given by Artaxerxes March 5, 444 B.C. Seven weeks: 49 years (Jerusalem rebuilt) Sixty two weeks: 434 years (Messiah)

    14. The 70 Weeks of Years (490 years) Daniel 9:26 Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

    15. Summary of 70 Weeks Thus Far

    16. Lamb Selection Day! Exodus 12:1-3, 5 Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month for you…Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, “On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves according to their fathers’ households…Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old…

    17. The 70th Week Daniel 9:27 And he will make a firm covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week, he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.

    18. Application 1. Like the Israelites, we too must not “take the name of God in Vain” 2. We must remember that when we do sin, our justification is only based on God’s mercy and compassion. 3. The specific nature of Daniel’s prophecy and its precise fulfillment proves the divinity of the Bible!

    19. Let Us Not “Take The LORD’S Name in Vain” Exodus 20:7 You shall not take the name of Yahweh in vain, for Yahweh will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. Deuteronomy 28:10 (Predicated on obedience) So all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the name of Yahweh and they will be afraid of you.

    20. Forgiveness Is Based Solely On God’s Faithfulness 1st John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

    21. The Precision of Daniel’s Prophecy Proves The Bible Is God’s Word 2nd Peter 1:20-21 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
