Data Analysis Part of Course Proteomics Class, Summer, 2001 M. Lawrence Clevenson Edward J. Carroll
Goals • 1. To expose students to a well-replicated proteomic (gel) data set • 2. To lead students to explore criteria for comparing models for this data set • 3. To guide students working in groups to prepare a presentation of their analysis and results
General Approach • Hands-On Activity with Computers for About Two Hours after Lunch • Afternoon Computer Activities Amplified Morning Lectures • Elementary Statistical and Graphing Examples—Model Fitting, Residuals • Early Exposure to Proteomic Data
Computer Laboratory Format • Specific spreadsheet tasks were demonstrated with detailed instructions • Example if desired • Work Files Evolved During First Two Weeks in Preparation for Projects • Example if desired
Marks of Success • 1. During the week of preparation of final presentations, activity level was high. • 2. Presentations were excellent. • 3. Students were proud of their accomplishment.
