Grade 12 Course Selection Many of you will be leaving next year, applying to university or college, or going into the workforce, and many of you will be attending Forest Heights.
University Bound Students • If you are University bound you will have at least 6 Grade 12 U or M level subjects on your schedule this year, along with completing all of your other graduation requirements. • After receiving your PIN number you will apply on-line to OUAC and select the schools you would like to attend by January 12, 2011 • PIN Presentations in the Library • Tues., Nov. 30 after school • Wed., Dec 1 at lunch
College Bound Students • Like university bound students, you will need to have enough subjects on your timetable to allow you to graduate with 30 credits in June • You will need to complete your on-line application to the College Application Service by February 1, 2011
Why consider staying? • Experiential learning= Co-op • Test drive a career before you spend thousands of dollars in a post-secondary education program • Speak to your guidance counsellor or co-op teacher for information on possible placements
Why consider staying? • Career Change is a normal occurrence and will likely happen several times in your working years • Consider taking different courses that may now be necessary for your new career choice
Why consider staying? • Mark upgrades are often necessary if you are applying to a competitive program or are reliant on attending a local university • Check school’s requirements and rules regarding upgrades as well as scholarship and bursary opportunities that may be open to you if your marks are higher
Why consider staying? • University and College Tuition is expensive • Consider the one semester option, attending either in person, or on-line which will allow you to work to earn $ for school
Why we have to know …Now • We need time to help you plan • We need to decide what courses we will offer based on your feedback • We need to hire staff to teach these courses
If you are leaving… • Please indicate that you are not returning on the course selection form and indicate your destination • Please log on to SOCR when we request in winter 2011 to confirm that you are not returning and again indicate your destination
If you are staying… • Check the on-line course calendar for the course codes of the classes you would like to take • If necessary, make an appointment to see your counsellor • Fill out the courses in the Year 5 column on your sheet • Be prepared to hand in your sheet when the counsellor comes to your class

FAMILY STUDIES: Grade 12 HNB 4OI The Fashion Industry Students will learn about the many facets of the Canadian fashion industry, as well as gaining practical experience in garment design, production and care. TFJ 4EI Food Services and Hospitality This course focuses on advanced food preparation and presentation skills, event and activity planning and the facilities and procedures used in the food service industry. TFJ 4EZ Food Services and Hospitality This course is for students enrolled in the ESL/ELD program (see above description) HFA 4MI Food and Nutrition Sciences Students will learn about current Canadian and worldwide issues relating to the food we eat, while experimenting with creating a variety of foods. HHS 4MI Individuals and Families in a Diverse Society This course applies current theories and research from the disciplines of sociology, psychology and anthropology to the study of individual development and family behaviour. HHG 4MI Issues in Human Growth and Development Students will examine how early brain and child development are linked to lifelong learning and will develop child-care and human-relationship skills through practical experiences in the community.

Physical and Health EducationLife long health ,fitness activities and sports! PPL 4OI (Leisure Sports) Design your own course based on the activities that you enjoy (eg. bowling, golfing, archery, basketball, rock climbing and floor hockey). On and off campus options. PLF 4CI (Fitness Leadership) Lead, organize, direct and participate in fitness based school and community activities that develop personal leadership and positive group dynamics. PSE 4UI (Exercise Science) The study of human anatomy, physiology and its systems. Social and ethical issues in sport and contemporary sport topics. Content delivered by lectures, guest speakers, hands on portfolios and independent study. TPT 4CI (Medical Technologies) The study of innovative, contemporary medical methods and technologies that are used in the field of health promotion and disease prevention.
