    3. Think about your aims Are you interested in PhD research? (if so you need to be applying now!) Will you be learning useful skills for your future career? Is the topic something that attracts you? Is their potential for your project to have impact? Slides are available on the COMP60990 website from Steve Furber’s talk 2 weeks ago

    4. New project selection process Discuss project with supervisor to determine mutual suitability – preferably at open house (this afternoon) Give CV to supervisors – remember to add the name of the project(s) you are applying for Submit your top choices via the 2010/11 project page: http://intranet.cs.man.ac.uk/mscprojects Supervisors will also submit their choices – think of it as speed dating!

Timetable for project selection Read through project descriptions now Complete your CV and make some copies This afternoon 12 – 3pm: Potential supervisors available in 2.19 Kilburn Thursday and Friday: Supervisors available in offices http://intranet.cs.man.ac.uk/mscprojects/projects.11/ Dec 10th – deadline to submit your choices. Jan 21st – project allocation published

    6. What should you ask? What artefact has to be developed? What computing skills are required? What research must be undertaken? What mathematics is involved in the project? Is it part of a bigger project? If so, who will you be working with?

    7. What are they looking for? Mainly, what competence do you have in the specific area the project, e.g. What previous experience you have had of undertaking research in the project domain. What mathematical skill you have that aligns to those required for the project. What high-level computing skills you presently have; and at what competence level.
