  5. Ask Questions First • What are the symptoms? • When do they occur? • Are there others affected? • Have there been any changes? • Weather/Season • Water events • Students • What do you think?

  6. Where to look • Start in the location the concern comes from • Look for the obvious

  7. Where to look • “It’s Mold!” • Check all potential water sources • Sinks/toilets • Windows/Doors • Plants/Animals • Aquariums/Terrariums • Radiator pipes/HVAC units • Variable Air Volume (VAV) Boxes, Diffusers, Filters • Humidifiers/Dehumidifiers • Lunch Bags/Back Packs/Cubbies

  10. Data Collection/Documentation • Photograph Everything! • Take copious notes! • Provide survey to staff • www.nhhealthyschoolenvironments.org • Take temperature readings • Note date and time • Number of occupants in the room • Activities in progress

  11. What to do next… • Summarize the data • Summarize the surveys • Include specific issues/areas • Match observations to issues/areas • Use Photos • Meet with the Administration • Make recommendations • Create an action plan • Assign action items • Conduct follow-up
