Two decades ago there was a limited option of cars to purchase that were either petrol gasoline or diesel based only propulsion engines. However, today there is an added alterative of hybrid vehicles that uses more than one means of energy to attain propulsion. In practice, they use petrol or diesel engine in combination with an electric motor. So what are the differences between the traditional petrol/diesel engines and the alterative engines? To start, hybrid cars come in different categories. There are the conventional hybrids and there are plug-in hybrids. For conventional hybrids, power sources can work either together or separately for propulsion to be achieved (Hantula, 2010). This depends on the speed at which the vehicle is moving. When the car is accelerated, it uses both power sources.
