Bill White went on to applaud Sean "Diddy" Combs' tribute to Whitney Houston prior to introducing the gala's host, Clive Davis. Diddy reflected on the life of Houston fondly, noting her natural positive spirit and listening to her sing was like listening to magic. He then went on to introduce the host of the pre-Grammy event, Clive Davis. Davis, mentor of the late Whitney Houston, took the stage and honored the fallen star with a moment of silence. In his opening remarks, Clive Davis said, "Simply put, Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carry on."
