Some quick history of the Texas HSI Consortium • Began approximately 2005-2006 with several founding institutions • Small group of Consortium members received a grant from USDA to increase transfer rate from 2-yr. to 4-yr. schools • Consortium hired a part-time Executive Director to serve as staff support to Consortium, who served until 2014-2015 • We have volunteer officers/director/coordinator AND the Consortium is alive & well & growing Texas Hispanic-Serving Institutions Consortium
The Texas Hispanic-Serving Institutions Consortium holds conferences annually in the spring in Texas for the State’s HSIs. These conferences are great for networking, uncovering funding opportunities, and they provide trends in HSI education. Current Officers: Dr. Nora R. Garza, President — Laredo College Ms. Evy G. Important Policy & Funding Successes for Texas HSIs • Maintaining Title V funding levels at U.S. Dept. of Education through 2021 • Maintaining USDA HSI funding at current level through 2021 • Developing HSACU designation in statute • Establishing an HSI competition at NSF, with $30 million annually through 2021

How are Texas HSIs doing regarding these funding opportunities? (Note that Texas HSIs represent 17% of all HSIs) For Dept. of Ed. Title V grants: Texas got 8 out of 34 new awards, or 23% For USDA HSI grants: Texas got 30 out of 81 new awards, or 37% For NSF HSI grants: Texas got 9 out of 68 new awards, or 13%
