  2. 21 year old male CK 8075 (0-170) phoning limit 5,000 Diagnosis:- Plant food overdose!!

  3. ??? Did this Patient mean to take plant food fertiliser or did he mean to take the herbicide Paraquat

  4. You can never be sure of the long term outcome. You have to wait for the notes to be come available.

  5. CASE PRESENTATION • A male patient admitted to A&E • Very agitated • Required restraint by both security and the police • Was having severe visual hallucinations.

  6. Patient sedation was advised by mother • Patient tachycardiac. No metabolic acidosis. • Patient put on a cardiac monitor • Patient claims to have taken LSD • Brother informed staff that he had actually ingested plant food (NRG1) 07.12.2010 Ck 745 08.12.2010 8705 08.12.2010 5197 08.12.2010 4648 09.12.2010 2811

  7. NRG-1, plant fertiliser, Naphthylpyrovalerone, energy-1, rave Naphyrone

  8. Limited information available on effects Toxicity is similar to amphetamines In severe cases :- Stroke Myocardial infarction Hyponatraemia Rhabdomyolosis DIC Renal failure Hepatocellular damage Poor prognostic signs:- Hyperthermia seizures Focal neurological signs Coma

  9. Nursing Care Plan • Maintain an adequate airway • Observe for 4 hours if asymptomatic • Pulse, blood pressure, body temperature. • 12 lead ECG • EC LFT and CK • Agitated adults require sedation • Correct any acidosis • Correct hypotension with IV • Nitrates and raising foot of bed • Correct hypothermia • If Ck raised due to rhabdomyolosis volume replacing alkalinisation to prevent or reduce rhabdomyolosis induced renal failure

  11. Patient sent home and told not to do it again !!!!!
