Advanced Cities The Aztecs had 2 main cities San Lorenzo and Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan is the capital of the Aztecs it had about 300,000 people in it. The main home had walls that were made of adobe and a thatched roof. The main building was one big room. It was divided into 4 separate areas. Tenochtitlan.
Specialized Workers The men were hunters and gatherers, while women cooked and wove clothing.Young boys were educated by their fathers until they were ten, when they started school.Girls stayed at home with their mothers and learned chores.They married when they were sixteen for women and twenty for men.Then there was a sport called hip ball.It was a sport like basketball but instead of throughing the ball you hit it with your hip.
Complex Institutions To serve their gods, they made towering temples, huge sculptures, and put together ceremonies that included human sacrifices. Hip ball courts were used to play the ancient Aztec game of hipball. This game was played by using a rubber ball that was hit with the players hips. The team that won this occasion was sacrificed. The Aztec royal palace was very large and beatutful. The palace had two stories + a big courtyard, where people would gather for discussions and parties, paintings, carvings, and gold panels on the walls.
Record Keeping Calendars, codex, art, pictures, poems, glyphs are some of the record keeping the they used. The picture at the bottom left is of the language they used called the Nahuatl language. On the bottom right there is an Aztec calendar that they made from their advances in astronomy.
Improved Technology Some weapons that the Aztecs used were the atlatl. The atlatl is a spear that is launched with a stick of some sort. The quohalloii is a large stone club that was used to smash enemy skulls. The mahaquatotoli, is a large wooden paddle that had sharp obsidian serrated edges that could cut a horses head off.The seal over the front entrance shows the Aztecs finding of an eagle eating a serpent which was the Aztec symbol of where to settle on lake tenochtichlan.
