Elasticity • How a demand curve reacts to a change in price
Elastic Demand • Demand can “s t r e t c h” • Good/service that is elastic is not a need, but a want
Elastic Demand Curve • If there is a large decreasein the quantity demanded with a small increase in price… • The demand curve looks flatter, or more horizontal • This flatter curve means that the good or service in question is elastic
Inelastic Demand • Demand does not “stretch” • Good/service that is inelastic is a need, not a want
Inelastic Demand Curve • As quantity changes a littleand price moves a lot… • The demand curve becomes upright • This upright curve means that the good or service in question is inelastic
