  5. NEWS ARTICLE SPEECH I. INTRODUCTION A. According to an article in New York Times on Jan. 16th, 2012, Martha a senior in high school gets up at 4:00am everyday to cross the Mexican border into California to attend an American high school. Martha’s school is only 8 miles across the border into the United States. It’s estimated that 100-200 students cross each day and most of them don’t pay the tuition they are supposed to; while their parents don’t pay the property taxes that help pay for their free education. B. These are teenagers just like you! They are American citizens, who want a good education, but their family can’t afford to live in the United States. C. The purpose of this speech is to inform you about the latest news regarding the concerns of providing a free education for students who live in Mexico. D. First, I will summarize the article for you. Then, I will give you my opinion on this topic.

At some point, all of us in this room have thought to ourselves, that is too difficult, I can’t do that. But we should always remember that when we put our minds to it we can accomplish anything C. The purpose of my speech today is to tell you the story of Samantha Garvey and her efforts to reach her goals. D. I will first tell you about her story and finally share my thoughts with you.
