Regulation EC (No) 1102/2008 Purpose ▫ Phase out mercury exports by 2011 ▫ Reduce demand and supply of mercury ▫ Reduction of mercury levels in the environment ▫ Reduction of mercury emissions Article 2. Metallic mercury ▫ No longer used in the Chlor-alkali industry ▫ Gained from cleaning of natural gas ▫ Gained from non-ferrous mining /smelting operations ▫ Extracted from cinnabar ore From 15 March 2011 Considered as waste and has to be disposed of
