HOPE Scholarship Program Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program – Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally Georgia’s unique scholarship and grant program that rewards students with financial assistance in degree, diploma, and certificate programs at eligible Georgia public and private colleges and universities, and public technical colleges.

  3. HOPE Scholarship Program Background Information • First Awards - Fall Term of 1993; • Fully funded by Georgia Lottery; • Has assisted more than 1 million students; • Has provided more than $4 billion in scholarships and grants; • Is the largest state program of its type in the nation.

HOPE Scholarship Program Eligibility and Award Meet Georgia residency and other basic requirements, such as citizenship and selective service registration Be enrolled in degree program at Georgia public or private college, university or technical college Achieve a 3.0 Grade Point Average from an eligible high school, or enter into the program after attempting 30 college degree hours Limit of 127 semester/190 quarter hours and 150/semester and 225/quarter hours for extended fourth tier which includes payments from the HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant and Accel Programs

  5. HOPE Scholarship Program Eligibility and Award Award at a public college, university or technical college covers tuition, HOPE-approved mandatory fees, and book allowance Award at a private college or university is $4,000 per academic year for full-time study or $2,000 for half-time study

HOPE Scholarship Program Recipients must have a HOPE GPA of 3.0 at each Checkpoint to continue eligibility • Three-Term Checkpoint (if applicable) • End-of-Spring Checkpoints • Attempted-Hours Checkpoints Note: At the Three-Term and End-of-Spring Checkpoints a student can lose eligibility, but not gain or regain eligibility

  7. HOPE Scholarship Program Fiscal Year 2010 Awards • Over 110,000 student recipients • Awards in excess of $450,000,000 • FY2011 Budget: $474,575,353

  8. HOPE Grant Program Eligibility and Award • Georgia resident attending a public technical or public college or university to earn a certificate or diploma • Paid-Hours Limit • 63 semester/95 quarter hours • up to 86 semester/130 quarter hours for extended diploma programs of study • Funds cover tuition, approved fees, and book allowance • All hours paid for by the HOPE Grant are included in the combined paid-hour limits for the HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant and Accel Programs

  10. HOPE GED Grant Program Eligibility and Award Legal resident of Georgia Earned GED diploma awarded by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education after June 30, 1993. Accepted at an eligible public technical college or public or private college or university in a degree, diploma, or certificate program One-time $500 HOPE award for all educational costs

Georgia’s Tuition Equalization Grant Program Eligibility and Award Be a resident of Georgia enrolled full-time in an eligible private college or university or Be a college level Junior or Senior enrolled full-time at an eligible four-year public college outside of Georgia that is within 50 miles of the student's home and with no four-year public college located in Georgia within 50 miles of the student's home Recipients receive an award of $375 per semester or $250 per quarter

College Opportunity Grant Background Information Authorized in State Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2011 First true and significant need-based aid program in the State of Georgia $15 million appropriated for Fiscal Year 2011 First awards will be Winter Quarter/Spring Semester 2011 Awards will be $250/Quarter and $500/Semester

College Opportunity Grant Eligibility and Award Meet residency and other basic requirements Be a recipient of the Pell Grant for the term for which COG is sought For FY2001, have a calculated EFC from the FAFSA of $0 Be enrolled as a fulltime (12 hours) undergraduate student seeking a college degree at a unit of the University System of Georgia or the Technical College System of Georgia

  16. College Opportunity Grant Eligibility and Award • Students must complete required community service hours prior to being awarded funds • For the 2010-2011 academic year, students must complete 10 hours/Quarter or 20 hours/Semester

Accel Program Eligibility and Award Georgia high school students that are simultaneously enrolled at eligible public or private colleges/universities and technical colleges in Georgia Students must be “dual-enrolled” with degree level coursework taken at the college being accepted for credit at the high school Hours for which payment is received count towards the Combined Paid Hours Limit

Accel Program Eligibility and Award Award amounts at public institutions cover tuition, HOPE approved fees, and a book allowance Students enrolled in private colleges/universities receive $2,000 per semester/$1,333 per quarter full-time enrollment with less than full-time awards being prorated

  19. Accel Program Fiscal Year 2010 Awards • Over 3,900 student recipients • Awards in excess of $6,500,000 • FY2011 Budget: $5,764,625

Byrd Honors Scholarship Eligibility and Award Federal program, administered by GA DOE and GSFC Demonstrate outstanding high school academic achievement Be a legal resident of Georgia Be named a Byrd Scholar by GA DOE Maximum award is $1,500 per academic year and renewable for three additional years of undergraduate study Federally funded and does not restrict recipient to attend a college/university within the state of Georgia

  21. Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Fiscal Year 2010 Awards Over 800 student recipients Awards in excess of $1,100,000

Georgia’s HERO Scholarship Eligibility and Award • Provides assistance to members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reservist or the children or spouse of such members who were killed or totally disabled as a result of injuries received in a combat zone • active duty service on or after February 1, 2003 • combat zone service for at least 181 cumulative days • Award amounts up to $2,000 per academic year for each qualifying term of service • Maximum award of $8,000 for the equivalent of four years of study

Georgia’s Public Safety Memorial Grant Eligibility and Award Be the dependent child of a Georgia Public Safety Officer who was permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty Be a legal resident of Georgia 12 months prior to receiving aid while enrolled full-time as an undergraduate at an eligible public postsecondary institution in Georgia Award covers total cost of attendance at an eligible public or private institution or technical college, minus other student financial aid not to exceed $18,000 per Award Year

Georgia’s Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grant Eligibility and Award Demonstrate substantial financial need, as determined by federal need-analysis methodology Apply for and be eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant Be enrolled in an eligible Georgia public college, university, or technical college in a program of study that is Pell eligible and leads to an undergraduate degree, diploma, and certificate Award amounts vary from $300 to $2,000 per academic year, depending upon the extent of the recipient's financial need
