  2. What is it? • It is a national program hosted by chapters of Kappa Delta Pi “to promote literacy among young people and support chapter programs that encourage a lifelong love of reading.” • Each chapter plans its own local event • The national organization provides grants to those who apply and show need to help support the event

  3. What are we doing? • Mission: Success(ful) • Students from Lansing’s Hill Alternative High School will be visiting MSU for a day • Throughout the day students will be participating in activities that are meant to encourage them to pursue a post-secondary education. Activities include: • Tour around campus and lunch • Financial aid informational session • Applying to schools informational session • Panel of RAs to answer questions about student life • And MORE!

  4. More on what we are doing… • Students will be taking pictures with digital cameras throughout the day • Students will use these digital pictures to create a digital story about their experience • At the end of the day, students will receive College Toolkits, that include: • Brochures from nearly a dozen Michigan Colleges and Universities • “The All-in-One College Guide” by Martin Nemko • Roapmap to College Success • Sample application and financial aide info

How can you help? • Volunteer to work with the students at the event—all day or for part of the day • Volunteer to upload the student’s photos during lunchtime at the Writing Center in Bessey hall • Come to our fundraisers • Volunteer at our fundraisers • Help us solicit local business donations • Ask any MSU athletes you know whether they would be interested in volunteering or just having lunch in one of the Cafes with the students • Help advertise our fundraisers • Come to planning meetings. The next (and last) planning meeting is on Wednesday, March 12th at 9pm in the Erickson Lobby

MONGOLIAN BBQ FUNDRAISER • On Wednesday, March 12th from 6pm-9pm @ the Okemos Mongolian BBQ (Okemos Rd and Grand River—CATA #1 goes right by it) • Volunteers needed: • Greeters (open doors for people coming to dine and tell them that we are holding a fundraising and would appreciate it if they told their server that they were here to support us) (2 per hour) • Bake Sale workers (2 per hour)

  9. More on the fundraiser… • Other ways to support us: • Bring your friends to come eat and say you are there supporting us (we get $1 for each patron who does this) • Donate baked goods to sell • Advertise—handouts to give to people you know will be available in 134 Erickson hall by Wednesday.
