What is the Green Schools Recognition Program? An Initiative of Pine Jog Environmental Education Center/College of Education/FAU in collaboration with the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties and the Palm Beach County School District. The initiative aims to encourage schools by recognizing their efforts toward “going green”. www.ourgreenschools.com
All public and private K-12 Palm Beach County Schools. • Recognition will be given to Green Schools of Promise; Green Schools of Quality; and Green Schools of Excellence. • These recognition levels illustrate that “going green” is a journey; and that schools should be acknowledged for their efforts along the way. www.ourgreenschools.com Who is eligible?

Administrative Support Teachers participate in environmental education training. School brochures explain to parents and visitors about being a Green School garden Teachers attend annual Learn Green Conference & Expo Principal Barch provides students with information on hydroponics
What are the Green School Criteria?A Rubric for Going Green • Green School of Promise = 40-59 points • Green School of Quality = 60-79 points • Green School of Excellence = 80-100 points
What are the rewards of being recognized as a Green School? • The “Top” Green Schools receive cash awards The “top” Green Schools in 2011 received cash awards totaling $6,800. • Forty nine schools were invited to a special recognition luncheon at the Community Foundation. • All participating schools are now eligible to apply for Green Seed Money in 2011-2012. • Schools received recognition on the Palm Beach County Green Schools website, in local media, and by the Palm Beach County School Board. • Schools received Green School certificates, banners, window decals, and logos for their own website, letterhead, etc. http://www.ourgreenschools.com/incentives

How do we apply? • Attend a Green School Workshop. • Complete an Application: to be eligible for Green School Recognition, your school must demonstrate how it has addressed at least one indicator from each category. A narrative summary and supplemental documentation is required for each indicator accomplished. • Applications must be received by March 5, 2012. http://www.ourgreenschools.com/apply
Application and Announcement Timeline • February 2012 – Judges Workshop • March 5, 2012 – Applications Deadline • March 12, 2012 -Application packets are distributed to each judge. • March 26, 2012 -Results from all judges received by Pine Jog. • March 30, 2012 - Results of judging reviewed by the steering committee. • April 3, 2012 - Recognition announced to schools. • April 30, 2012 – Awards Ceremony http://www.ourgreenschools.com/apply
