September 21, 2012 Warm Up: To you, what are the most important things that make a good actor/actress? Objective: Students will participate in a character workshop that focuses on concentration and visualization.
Open Scene – write it down • A: Hi • B: Hello • A: How are you? • B: Fine, I guess. • A: Do you have the time? • B: No. • A: Do you have a watch? • B: No, not on me. • A: Well? • B: Well what? • A: What did you do last night? • B: Nothing. • A: Nothing? • B: I said nothing! • A: Sorry I asked.
Lessons from Richard Bolslevski • Concentration – the ability for an actor to block out external forces, to remain in character, and perform the action truthfully and completely. • Visualization – the ability to see the reality of the scene, regardless of circumstances on stage, and to be consistent in reacting to the reality of the scene.
Activity • Using the open scene, develop a situation for the words with a partner. Make them detailed (helpful hint: write them in your notebook!!!). • Informally practice in peer groups • We will share out, and discuss observations of concentration and visualization
