Social Media Tools • Digital Social rule of Life 1.0 by Elizabeth Drescher (Tweet if you Love Jesus) • Have a friend, be a friend • Keep the Church doors open (you conduct your ministries in public and talk to anyone face to face…same holds true in social media) • Tweet a simple melody – not a symphony • Share the Love, Honestly (give credit) • Follow the rules (Diocesan Social Media Policy)
Facebook • Terms you should know: • Profile / User Account (about you – in order to make a page) • Facebook Page (org, church, group, to connect to others in a public manner) • Administrator (controls content and settings of a group and does so through the personal profile) • Applications (you can add to page) • News Feed (your friends’s posts) • Wall (where you keep you up to date content = your status) • Like Us thumb / Like Comment Share

Facebook • How do you measure success? • Insights/Stats or more… “‘Likes’ are good. ‘Comments’ are better. ‘Shares’ are best.” What could we do to promote interest in our pages?
Facebook • Facebook can be used for the following: • Provide links to resources online • Post questions / Gather feedback • Post photos (with the proper ok) • Promote upcoming events • Engage Catholics and non-Catholics to dialogue together • Use it as a ministry tool to encourage those that may be discouraged • Communicate with youth

Twitter • Things to know: • 140 – the maximum number of characters allowed in a tweet. • @ before a Twitter name to mention someone • # (hashtag) – could be a theme of the tweet. • RT = “retweet” (giving someone credit) • Need to put a link – use http://tinyurl.com/
Twitter • Twitter can be used for the following: • Allows for two way communicating, enabling conversations, collaboration and networking • Use their privacy settings to manage who will see your updates • Ability to send urgent prayer requests, meeting changes, etc. • Great way to remind those about a ministry deadline or project • Use Twitter to share Bible verses and daily devotionals (retweet verses from @Daily_Bible) • Follow people to receive up to date information. • Shorten your web link through http://tinyurl.com/
Twitter • How do you use Twitter?
YouTube • YouTube is part of Google – but you do not need to get a Gmail or Google account to use YouTube. • Use the following link to set up a Google Account using your own email address: • https://accounts.google.com/NewAccount
You Tube Now that can log into Google – consider experimenting with the following tools: Google + (like Facebook but groups are “circles” Maps (insert map into your website/blog, etc.) YouTube, Calendar (embed in webpage), Google Alerts, Documents – Forms, Spreadsheets, Drawing, Charts
You Tube • Subscribing - If you subscribe to a channel (i.e. RockfordDiocese) you will be notified as soon as a new video is available. • Viewing Options: Like / Dislike, Add to favorites or playlist, Share or Embed, Change Quality, View later, small player, big player, full screen, # of views, statistics, add comments.

You Tube • Link / Embed in a web page • You can link to a YouTube video in to a Facebook page, website, Twitter feed and more!
You Tube • Reasons for a YouTube video: • Broadcast a great homily / speech. • Promote a new program. • Inspire others by the message. • Educate others (class, lesson, etc.). • Link the YouTube video to your Facebook and Twitter pages. • Your video can link back to your church/school’s website for more information.

Blog • Reasons for having a blog: • You can engage directly with your target audience. • You have a personal voice. • Inspire others by the message. • Promote a new program. • Educate, inform, advise. Blogger, Wordpress, Serendipity, blogengine, Geeklog, Lifetype
