Gas Exporting Countries Forum • Established in May 2001 by the governments of Algeria, Brunei, Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, the Russian Federation, Turkmenistan and Norway (Observer) • In December 2008 transformed into a full-scale international organization • Headquarters located in Doha, State of Qatar 2
Members and Observers • 11 members of the Forum: Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela. • Kazakhstan, Netherlands and Norway are Observers 3
Objectives • to exploit and to manage natural gas reserves benefit of their nations; • to promote integration of the gas market and its stability; • to protect the sovereign rights of Member-Countries over their natural gas reserves as well as the ability to independently plan and provide for sustainable and effective ecologically friendly development. 4
