Do you agree with the statement? The vibrations in materials are responsible for making different sounds. YES NO
Do you agree with the statement? The lower the frequency of the wave, the higher the pitch of the sound. YES NO
Do you agree with the statement? Decibels are used to measure a sound’s intensity. YES NO
Do you agree with the statement? When the energy of sound waves is transferred, it becomes electrical energy. YES NO
What is Sound? Sound is a wave of vibrations (back-and-forth motions) that spread from their source and is measured in decibels. A sound with greater frequency (measure of how fast particles vibrate), the higher the pitch. The areas where the particles are close together are called the crest. The part of the ear that absorbs the sound is the eardrum.
Your Voice Energy causes the vocal cords in your throat vibrate and make sounds (particles vibrate) when you talk and travel in the air as sound waves.
Sound Transfer of Energy Sound waves transfer energy from one object to another, like sound in the music room is absorbed by soundproofing material. BRAIN POP: Sound
TextQuest Answer in your Science Journal 1. What part of the ear absorbs the sound energy? 2. In which material does sound travel the slowest: air, water or metal? 3. In which material does sound travel the fastest: air, water or metal? 4. Where is the crest of the sound waves? Don't forget to write your home learning in your agenda page 141A.
