School Counselor Appointments • Students must see the School Counseling Secretary to schedule appointments with counselors • Students should schedule appointments with their counselor: • Before/after school • During study hall or elective period • In the event of an emergency, students may see their school counselor without an appointment BUT they must have a pass from their teacher.

Graduation Requirements FHS 4.0 – English 4.0 – Mathematics 4.0 – Science (1 credit in Biology and 1 credit in Physical Science) 3.0 – Social Studies (1 credit in U.S. History/ .5 credit in Civics) 0.5 – Health 1.0 – Physical Education 1.0 – Applied Arts 1.0 – Fine Arts 7.5 – Electives 26 Total Credits

  10. GPA (cont’d.) • Calculating your GPA is simple, and important to understanding your academic progress throughout high school. • GPA represents a student’s grade that he/she received in a particular class • This can be weighted or un-weighted.

Athletic Eligibility Policy • CIAC Eligibility Requirements: • Earn 4 credits from the previous school year to be eligible for Fall, Winter, and/or Spring sports • Freshmen are automatically eligible per CIAC standards • Year-end failures may be made up through successfully completion of LEA approved summer school courses • Students have 8 consecutive semesters (or 4 consecutive years) of eligibility from the start of 9th grade • Additional information regarding athletic eligibility can be found on the CIAC website at http://ciacsports.com

Attendance Policy • Credit for 1.0 credit year-long courses will be withheld when a student exceeds 12 class absences (6 for semester-long courses) in the class for excused/unexcused absences. • Parents will be notified in writing following the 4th absences for all courses. • Parents will be notified in writing when credit is withheld due to violation of the attendance policy.

What does that mean for YOU? • Be on time to classes • Be present in ALL classes • Make sure parent/guardian notifies the school when you are ill • By phone, but also must submit in writing to be an excused absence • Doctor’s note (if absent for 3 or more consecutive days) • After 9 absences due to illness, doctor’s note is required by state law • Provide documentation from appointments to the floor secretary

  16. Career Clusters The FHS School Counseling Department will be taking the time to meet with the Freshman class of 2018 about Career Clusters. This will be a unique, new opportunity that allows students to tailor their 4-year education plan to college and career interests.
