What are six-word memoirs? • Think of six-word memoirs as super summarizing. If you could only summarize something in six words, you have to think about what is most important from that text. • Those six words need to pack a lot of punch. Every word counts!
History of six-word memoirs • Six-word memoirs came about when Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write a short story in only six words. • Hemingway’s short story: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”
Examples of six-word memoirs Too much love for one heart. I won’t make that mistake again. Voldemort. That’s right, I said it. I fell asleep in class, again.
Narrative Six-Word Memoirs Try to create two different six-word memoirs based on your own life. Remember, you have to say a lot with very little.
Tweets Twitter is similar to the idea of six-word memoirs because you have to express yourself in less than 140 characters. • He chased airplanes. He chased his own tail. He got older. He moved slower. Complete organ failure. I had to make the difficult choice. #ruffchoices • Decided to live with my dad. Mom was never happy about it. I wish they would speak to each other.
Narrative Tweets Write a “tweet” about something from your life. You can expand on one of your six-word memoirs or write about something entirely different. Remember, it has to be 140 characters or less! You may choose to include a hashtag or not.
