We Are…Marshall • Marshall University offers Institutional Merit-based scholarships which are awarded based on high school criteria through the Admission process. These are non-competitive, so every student submitting the required credentials receives the award! • And these are renewable for up to 8 semesters if renewal criteria are met.
We Are…Marshall • There are also Endowed and Annual Scholarships. Applications for the Endowed scholarships for students from our region can be found on our website and must be completed and submitted by the due date. • Visit our website at www.marshall.edu/sfa and under Forms & Applications you will find the Scholarships Specific to High School or County and also Scholarships based on Affiliation, Employment, or Membership
Community-Based Scholarships • If you are aware of other scholarships that are specific to your school, county or community that you want the university to promote, please forward the electronic link to the Office of Student Financial Assistance so that we can post it to our website.
Private Scholarship Sources • Foundations • Community organizations and civic groups • Religious or ethnicity-based organizations • Organizations related to student’s field • Local businesses and employers
Typical On-line Scholarship Search • Search using keyword • Search targeted to student’s information • Always use free searches!
Searching for Private Scholarships • Other websites: • www.Fastweb.com • www.educationstart.org • www.coca-colascholasprogram.org • www.finaid.org • www.scholarships.org • www.studentaid.ed.gov, click on Financial Aid and Scholarship Wizard link
Avoid Scholarship Scams • Scholarships are considered “free” money that does not have to be paid back • Avoid sites that charge a fee • If it sounds too good to be true it probably is • Be aware of identity theft
