With a partner, come up with a way to explain to a Form 1 student the difference between the following terms. (be sure to provide examples). Knowledge, Belief, Opinion. Knowledge Claims. A knowledge claim is when you claim that something is true. The sky is blue.

  1. With a partner, come up with a way to explain to a Form 1 student the difference between the following terms.(be sure to provide examples) Knowledge, Belief, Opinion

  2. Knowledge Claims A knowledge claim is when you claim that something is true.

  3. The sky is blue Is this a knowledge claim?

  4. Blue is a wavelength Is this a knowledge claim?

  5. Blue is a beautiful color. Is this a knowledge claim?

  6. So why/when are Knowledge Claims important? If you tell someone that you are hungry, will anyone question you? Would it matter? Why or why not?

  7. 2 different types of knowledge claim.Are there more? Objective and subjective

  8. Objective: knowledge claim that is not influenced by the perception or interpretation of the claimant

  9. subjective: knowledge claim that is influenced by the perception or interpretation of the claimant

  10. Come up with a list of: 3 rather objective claims 3 rather subjective claims

  11. 20 minute homework assignment: Is it possible to have completely objective knowledge?

  13. What if you said that the sky is blue because the sky is a painting? With a partner, decide what the difference is between Knowledge and a knowledge claim Write your answer in a clear paragraph

  14. Essentially, the difference is that ‘knowledge’ in various Areas of Knowledge…. Have passed some sort of truth test

  15. What is a truth test, or truth trial? Take a look at the next diagram

  16. What is the difference between the right hand side and left hand side of the diagram? Could any situations arise where the left hand side of the diagram could be considered knowledge without passing to the right hand side?

  17. Look at the diagram again. Using your own brain power, come up with a definition of a truth test (truth trial)

  18. If a scientist says to you: “The earth Is flat, I know it, I can just feel it.” Is that scientific knowledge?

  19. Different Areas of Knowledge.. Sometimes require different types of truth tests

  20. What about Math and Science? Do they have the same Truth Trials, or criteria to establish what knowledge is?
