  1. Curriculum Night 08-09 Welcome to the grade ¾ class of Madame Cross

  2. Classroom expectations Home expectations The 2 types of expectations from students ***note*** not the parent!

  3. Classroom Expectations • Respect one another at all times • Always speak French • Be accountable for your learning

  4. Be accountable for learning • Know what you are doing well • Where do I need to improve? • Listening in class • Staying on task • Completing assignments in class and at home

  5. Knowing the outcomes and what do grades mean? • At any time students and their parents or guardians can refer to our outcomes bulletin board for up to date classroom topics.

  6. A student consistently demonstrates the outcomes assessed (this is very rare with the amount of new curriculum that students are learning in grade 3 and 4.)

  7. B • student usually demonstrates the outcomes assessed. • (this is a very positive grade and shows that the student has a very good understanding of the curriculum studied in class.)

  8. C • student sometimes demonstrates the outcomes assessed. • (this tells us that the student has understood the key elements, however has had some difficulty in demonstrating the outcomes assessed.

  9. D • student rarely demonstrates the outcomes assessed. • ( this should never come as a surprise, discussions with parents/guardians will take place prior and a plan for additional support should have begun.)

  10. Home expectations …and of course homework!

  11. Homework is to be: • Independently done by the student • As unassisted as possible (with the exception of nightly reading) • A great practice for students to be accountable for what they have learned in class

  12. Homework is not intended to : • Be frustrating • Or time consuming

  13. Homework specifics • Spelling/dictée worksheets (due Thursdays) • Weekly Reading Journals • Large assignments/projects

  14. Communicate • School phone: 479-4298 • E-mail: mcross1@staff.ednet.ns.ca • Write in the agenda • Schedule an appointment
