  2. This paper aims to explore and analyse the development and the role of Nepali media in the UK Nepali community using anthropology - ethnography research methodology.

  3. In order to carry out the exploration systematically, • Nepali media in the UK have been divided into: • Radio (Broadcasting media) • Print • Online media and • Television • Then the paper explored the history of Nepali media in the UK. The findings from past history have been linked with the current context to investigate the role of Nepali media in the process of knowledge generation and dissemination for community integration.

Radio (Broadcasting media) • BBC radio started a once a week 30 minute long Nepali programme on the 7th of June 1969. • Everest Radio came on the air in 1998 and ceased in 2001. • BFBS Gurkha Radio for Gurkha soldiers and their families - started service in 1952 from Singapore and moved to Hong Kong, Brunei and to the UK in late 1998. • Radio BGWS, community radio station had its experimental broadcasting debut in 2007. Full time on the air started in 2011. Radio BGWS is the first Nepali community radio in the UK.

  5. Print Media • The Nepali print media have been divided into three groups: • Organizational journal magazine (MukhPatra) • News magazine and • Newspaper

  6. Organizational journal magazine (MukhPatra) -‘YETI PATRA’ was the first Nepali organizational jounal magazine (MukhPatra) published in 1960 by Yeti Association under the editorship of PashupatiSamsher JBR.

  9. Online Media: Europe KoNepalipatra has widely read e-news paper (www.nepalipatra.com). Weekly more than 60,000 people around the world read its e-newspaper. Other UK based on line media are (www.NepaliSandesh.com). www.gurkhas.com; www.gazabko.com; www.brtainnepal.com; www.nepalisamajuk.com; www.nepalbritain.com; and http://janachautari.com.

  10. Television media: In the context of television, initially two television companies appeared in 2005. Now only one Nepali Television Company is operating. Nepali Television based in London and can be watched in 58 countries mainly in Europe, Gulf countries and Malaysia.
