We are going to have 4 main THEMES • Civil Rights • Politics and Government • Cold War and Foreign Policy • Economic / Social / Cultural
Civil Rights • Our goal for this Theme will be: • By the end of the year students will be able to identify how different groups struggled and campaigned for civil rights and assess their successes.
Politics and Government • Our goal for this Theme will be: • By the end of the year students will chart the philosophies of the major political parties in the United States according to Hamiltonian and Jeffersonian philosophy.
Cold War and Foreign Policy • Our goal for this Theme will be: • By the end of the year students will assess the intentions of US policies and their roles in global affairs during and after the Cold War.
Economic/Social/Cultural • Our goal for this Theme will be: • By the end of the year students will compare and contrast the elements of American society which united the people and elements which divided the people.
Long term assignments • Civil Rights – Students will be keeping track of constitutional rights that were being demanded and how the different groups fought for them. • Politics and Government – Students will create a poster chart of the extent to which political eras / administrations were Hamiltonian or Jeffersonian.
Long term assignments • Cold War and Foreign Policy – Students will track cold war and post-cold war “Hot Spots” which attracted US attention. • Economic/Social/Cultural – Students will create a poster made to look like a television screen with images of significant moments whish united and/or divided the American people.
Questions to Consider • What were the impressions of the USSR? • How does this fit into the context of a future relationship with the USSR? • What was Kennan's opinion of future of US policy? • Highlight/underline policy vocabulary you know…circle vocabulary you need to learn.
