Short Circuit? • Can you draw the circuit required for Johnny 5 to restart after being “shut off”?
Complex Circuits • Resistors may be connected in a circuit in a variety of series-parallel combinations. • A procedure for analyzing complex circuits is as follows: • Find RT , VT , IT • Find ISeries (That is, the current through the series portion of that part of the circuit.) • Find VSeries (With V=IR) • Find VParallel (VT – VSeries) • Find IParallel • Find Power
Problem #1 R1 • If the battery has a voltage of 20 volts, R1= 8 ohms, R2 = 8 ohms, and R3 = 6 ohms… • Solve the circuit. R3 R2
Problem #2 • What are the voltage across and the current in each of the resistors R1 through R5 in the preceding figure? • Answer: • 8.00 Ω • 18.0 V 3.00 A • 6.00 V 1.50 A • 2.25 V 0.38 A • 2.25 V 1.13 A • 3.75 V 1.50 A
Problem #3 • One 25 Ω resistor and one 15 Ω resistor are connected in parallel. This combination is connected between the terminals of a 75.0 volt battery. A 50.0 Ω resistor is also connected across the battery, in series with the parallel combination. (a) How much current is supplied by the battery? (b) How much power is dissipated in one of the 25.0 Ω resistors? • Answer:
