In the northern hemisphere the main grasslands are the prairies of the Midwestern United States and Canada. • In Eurasia the maker grasslands are the steppes of Russia and the grasslands of the Mideast extending from Turkey to India. • Grasslands are also found in South America. Africa certainly has grasslands, but the majority of them are classified instead as savannas. Locations

Crops grow well in the rich soil. • Grasslands receive about 10 to 30 inches of rain per year • If they received more rain, the grasslands would become a forest. If they received less, they would become a desert. • Trees are found only by rivers and streams. The grassland seems like an endless ocean of grass. • The wild prairie has disappeared, for the most part, from the United States. Only a few spots of wild prairie remain. Interesting Grassland facts
