  2. The United States Capitol which houses the United States Congress. The Capitol building is the place where the Congress meets. It is situated on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. and dominates the city.

  3. The Capitol is one place — but it fills three roles. It’s a working office building, a revered national symbol and a showcase of history.

  4. Statue of Freedom (Armed Freedom) Architect Thomas Crawford The Statue of Freedom — also known as Armed Freedom or simply Freedom — is a bronze statue designed by Thomas Crawford that since 1863 has crowned the dome of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

  5. The US Capitol Rotunda The United States Capitol central rotunda is located below the Capitol dome; it is the tallest part of the Capitol and has been described as its "symbolic and physical heart."

  6. The US Capitol Statuary Hall To the south of the Capitol rotunda there is the semi-circular National Statuary Hall, which until 1857 was the chamber of the House of Representatives. National Statuary Hall is devoted to sculptures of prominent Americans.
