  2. What is a butterfly? • A butterfly is an insect, which means it has: *six legs *three body parts: head, thorax, abdomen *two antenna with knobs at the end • A butterfly’s life cycle has 4 stages. • A butterfly eats nectar from flowers. • A butterfly has four scaly wings.

  5. How Butterflies Eat The butterfly’s proboscis is unrolled and is used to drink the flower’s nectar. The butterfly’s proboscis is rolled when not in use.

  6. Butterfly in Flight Butterflies are very good fliers. Their four wings are attached to their thorax. Butterflies can only fly if the temperature is above 86 degrees.

  7. Butterfly Camouflage The spots on the back of this butterfly makes it look like an owl to its predators, so it is left alone instead of being eaten. Pretty smart huh? Inside the wings of the Owl Butterfly
