Objective 1 Strategies • Create an International virtual knowledge sharing network of transportation researchers and practitioners in academia/ government/ industry to provide information and assistance to other countries and to serve as a resource for US researchers and practitioners.

SSATP • MISSION STATEMENT • The SSATP is an international partnership to facilitate policy development and related capacity building in the transport sector in Sub-Saharan Africa.Sound policies lead to safe, reliable and cost-effective transport, freeing people to lift themselves out of poverty, and helping countries to compete internationally.

Objective 2 Strategies (Cont) • Identify two/three conferences that are of interest to TRB & establish contact with chairperson to explore TRB involvement • Sponsor TRB session on TRB international activities during the Int. T2 Symposium to be held in Florida, 2006. (Tony Bliss) • Session about TRB International activities during World Conference in Transportation Research in Berkeley 2007. George Giannopoulos is organizing a session entitled: Issues of International Transport Research Cooperation: Strengthening the EU/US transport research cooperation.
Sustainable Urban Mobility in Asia A CAI-Asia Program Realizing Sustainable Urban Transport in Asia: The need for stronger and broader partnerships • CAI-Asia program focuses on (i) improving urban air quality, (ii) reducing CO2 emissions and (iii) improving road safety
Sustainable Urban Mobility in Asia (SUMA) • There is a need for a strong platform in Asia where various organizations can sit together to exchange information on SUT and develop a critical mass of change in favor of SUT • An Asian SUT regional network can help to build capacity in national and local governments as well as private sector to plan and implement SUT programs and projects • Does SUMA the potential to become the leading regional initiative on urban transport? • Will a TRB in Asia help in establishing such an Asian network? ---- Yes!

Objective 3 • Institutionalize partnerships between TRB& peer organization in developed and developing countries • Encourage twinning and partnership agreements between TRB and committees /organizations with similar interests in other countries.
Objective 3 Strategies (Cont) • Serve all TRB Committees, subcommittee that have an international scope and/or are interested in international Activities. We already have champions for some of the Committees • Identify Possible International Members • We are looking for volunteers
Objective 4 • Identify research needs of international community & promote addressing those needs. • Survey international organizations to identify top transportation research needs & share those needs with the international community. • Invite International organizations to establish a network for international project advisory panels (to participate in those research projects) • Explore the possibilities of establishing an International cooperative research programs (Pool-funds program.)
