Functions of Folklore • Validation (validates certain aspects of culture, justifies rituals) • Integration (helps groups stay together, expresses social conformity) • To help explain something that the people cannot explain due to lack of science • Educate (teach history, cultural norms)
Fairytale • Kind of folktale or fable • Fantasy creatures • Almost always include an element of magic and good triumphing over evil
Fables • Short story, typically with animals or characters, includes a moral
