  1. Fairytales • What is a fairytale? List as many elements of a fairy tale that you can think of.

  2. Fairytales • Genre: myth, legend, folklore • Represent both our innermost world and the real one

  3. Fairy tales must have a special beginning and/or ending.

  4. Characters interact with something magical: this symbolizes the feelings of ordinary people dealing with everyday problems.

  5. Events often occur in threes or sevens.

  6. There is usually one good character (the protagonist), and one evil character (the antagonist). • It is the role of the good character to overcome the obstacles that the villain creates.

  7. Royalty and/or castles usually exist in fairy tales, but they are optional. We have many fairy tales that do not have castles such as The Little Red Riding Hood .
