  6. ADI WHO Strategy • ADI in official relations with WHO since 1996 • Present at World Health Assembly • Statements given by ADI representatives at regional meetings of the WHO • Global Alzheimer’s Disease Charter: petition signed by 54,821 people worldwide • WHO Dementia report by 2012

  7. Capacity building • Advocacy Alzheimer University training course in Chicago June 2010 • World Alzheimer Report 2010 on economic costs • Tracking national Alzheimer plans • June 2011 Alzheimer University in Berlin, Germany

Policy aims • ADI campaigns for dementia to be put on the agenda of the World Health Organization and other international bodies (G20, UN, OECD) • First result: mhGAP includes dementia • September 2011: NCD Summit • Possible future WHO report • 2012 World Health Day on Ageing • Network of policy officers

National Action Plans • Some countries started action plans • Examples: Australia 2004, Korea 2008 (War on Dementia), France 2008, England, Norway 2009 • Several on its way, mainly in Europe, but including US (NAPA) • Every country should have a plan! Canada? • Main elements: raising awareness, education of workforce, stimulation earlier diagnosis, care improvement, more $ for research
