  4. Who We Are Mission Marcy Open provides a respectful environment that emphasizes responsibility, creativity, curiosity, and connectedness to the world. Vision Creating a learning environment emphasizing academic achievement as well as personal development that promotes lifelong learning and individual goal setting. School Stats • Our current enrollment is 720 students, K-8. • Within our student population, we have 19% Advanced Learners, 14% ELL, 14% Special Education. • Our demographics are 41% African/African American, 40% Caucasian, 19% other ethnicities, cultures and races. • 49% of our students qualify for free/reduced price lunch.

Our Current Reality Challenges • The building capacity is always challenged by the number of students in attendance. • All families wishing to attend Marcy may not be able to do so based on our magnet status and boundaries. • An achievement gap continues to exists between Students of Color and Caucasian students. Strengths • We are an International Peace Site, where we focus on social justice and peace. • We teach using Open school philosophy, which provides integrated, project-based learning opportunities for students. • We partner with Marcy Arts Partnership and have a strong connection to the local Arts Community. • We have goal-setting conferences with parents and students each fall to determine individual student goals.

  7. What’s a School Improvement Plan? Our school improvement plan: Sets the goals that our school community is working to achieve Identifies the strategies or activities that will help us reach those goals together Every Minneapolis Public School is required to develop, implement, and monitor a school improvement plan.

Our School Improvement Plan Strategy to achieve our goal: MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Supports) is a framework used to provide multiple levels of support for the academic, social emotional, and behavioral development of all students. Component 3 (Long Term Planning) Component 2 (Data Dives & Diagnostics) Goal: Reading Achievement goal: By 2020, the Percent of students making typical or aggressive growth on FAST for All Students will increase from 65% to 75%.

Our School Improvement Plan Strategy to achieve our goal: MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Supports) is a framework used to provide multiple levels of support for the academic, social emotional, and behavioral development of all students. Component 3 (Long Term Planning) Component 2 (Data Dives & Diagnostics) Goal: Math Achievement goal: By 2020, the Percent of students making typical or aggressive growth on FAST for All Students will increase from 60% to 70%.

Our School Improvement Plan Strategy to achieve our goal: • Continue SEL/Equity work with staff through the MPS SEL Cohort 2 activities and resources. • Deep dive as a staff into Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond. Goal: Social-Emotional Learning goal: By 2020, the Suspension disproportionality for African American/Black students will decrease from 85% to 75%.

How We Measure Student Progress Assessments help us answer questions such as: • Are we teaching what we think we are teaching? • Are students learning what we intend for them to be learning? • Are all students improving and being appropriately challenged? Some of the assessments our students will take this year are: • MCAs • FAST • Benchmark Interims • F & P • KComs We want to make sure our students are learning as much as possible, so we use state and district assessments to determine their strengths and areas for growth. The results of these assessments help us figure out how we can better support our students in the classroom.

  12. How We’ll Share Student Progress with You Throughout the year, we’ll share information with you about how your student is doing in the classroom. We’ll do it in the following ways: Parent-Teacher conferences on October 15th & 16th and February 18th. Quarterly report cards mailed home quarterly. Phone call and email interactions between teachers and parents, as needed.

  14. What is Title I? Title I supports our School Improvement Plan, and the funding we receive helps us reach our goals. • Title I is a federal program that provides money to schools and districtsto help them ensure all children have an equal opportunity to get a high-quality education and achieve proficiency on our state’s academic standards and assessments.

  15. For the 2019-2020 school year, we received $265,902 in Title I funding, which makes up 4.3% of our school budget. We are required to use Title I funding to improve the academic achievement of all students and engage YOU, our families, in that process! Marcy Open School is a schoolwideTitle I program, which means all our students are able to benefit from the services we provide with our Title I funding.

How We’re Using our Title I Funding Family Engagement • Family Liaison position: provide support to families • Postage for family communication • Refreshments at family meetings Curriculum and Instruction Support • Math Interventionist: provide Math interventions • 2 Support Staff positions, which provide Literacy interventions • 1 bilingual AE position, which provide Literacy support • 1 AE position, which provide Literacy support • Instructional Supplies: Reading A-Z and other curriculum supports

As a family member in a Title I School, you have the right to… Request information from the district about whether your student’s teacher meets State licensing approval for the grade and subject being taught, is teaching with a waiver, and/or has certification for the field being taught Request information about the qualifications of any paraprofessional providing instruction Know how your child’s school is rated on its state test scores Expect regular communication with your school in a language that you can understand Work with other families and staff to develop a compactbetween our school and our families Help plan how money for family involvement should be spent Work with teachers, other families, and the school principal to develop a family involvement plan Ask for a meeting with your school principal or your child’s teacher at any time

  18. Opportunities for Families to be Involved! We want your input on our: • School Improvement Plan goals and strategies • Family Involvement Plan • School-Family Compact You can find all these documents on our school website! We’d love to see you at the following school events: • Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 15thand 16th • Fall Fun/Book Fair on October 25th • Participate in Site Council! MOPSC meets the first Thursday on each Month. It is an opportunity to connect with the Principal and address concerns relevant to you. • Visityour child’s classroom or volunteer at our school! • Talk to your child’s teacher about events and issues that may affect your child’s work or behavior.
