Unit Summary Information is everywhere. This module will teach students to become socially aware of what is going on around the society through opening their minds to the vast world of journalism. Also this module will help develop the critical thinking and sound judgment of the students. This is done by exposing them to various issues and current events.
Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question • Why is information a source of power? Unit Questions • How is information important in your life? • How has information changed you?
Content Questions • What is journalism and its role in society? • What are the elements of journalism? • What is the Code of Ethics in Journalism? • What are the various forms of writing news? • What are the different parts of a newspaper?
This project will help my students develop 21st century skills by: • Making their own newspaper dummy. • Analyzing received information and try to find solutions to various problems. • Collaborating with peers. • Using information accurately to create their own news. • Taking an active role in the society.
Gauging Student Needs Assessment • I will use my Essential Question and Unit Questions to help students realize the importance of information, responsible journalism and relying news to others correctly. • Their project, the newspaper dummy, will help me measure how well they have learned about journalism and how engrossed they are with various news.
My Goals for the Course • To make students interested in learning about news. • Appreciate the importance of news. • To help students develop higher order thinking skills.
Goals for My Students • To make the students become a problem solver in their own ways to various issues. • To become critical of the information they receive everyday. • To be independent yet collaborative learners.
