Classroom • Space Conditions • Walls – Gypsum board – Light grey • ρ = .51 • Ceiling – White gloss gypsum – 11ft. High • ρ = .68 • Floor – blue color carpet • ρ = .32
Classroom • Design Goals • Functions – lectures, movies, displays, gatherings • To allow different scenes for certain tasks • Create a large space by illuminating all surfaces • Provide adequate light for easy viewing from the back row • Provide an energy efficient system that could be used continuously throughout other similar spaces
Classroom • Controls • Two dimming switches will be applied to the different fixtures • Each type of fixtures will run on one circuit to control box • Dimming switch will allow 10 to 100% dimming using high frequency ballasts
Classroom • Design Criteria • Power Density = 1.6 W/sqft. • Vertical Illuminance • Marker board and speaker = 10 fc • Horizontal Illuminance • Circulation = 10 fc • Reading/Writing @ seating area = 30 fc
Classroom • Layout of Fixtures 8” recessed downlight w/ 26W compact fluorescents Max Intensity = 953 cd
Classroom • Layout of Fixtures 8’ triangular pendants w/ 4-32W T8 fluorescents Max Intensity = 1424 cd

Transition Spaces • Vestibule (1) • Foyer (2) • Lobby(3) • Prefunction(4) • Corridor (5) • Coat Room (6) 4 2 1 3 6 5 Spaces Lead to two different entrances of the auditorium From the prefunction space and near the coat room.
Transition Space and Auditorium • Controls • All lights will be controlled by a preset dimming track system located in electrical room • Fixtures will be divided into zones connecting to one circuit. • Panel system will allow change of scenes with a push of a button
Transition Spaces • Space Conditions • Walls-either limestone or wood paneling, • Carpet floors • Eggshell painted ceilings • No daylight • 3 ceiling heights • 8’, 13’, 16’ ρ = .50 ρ = .39 ρ = .80
Transition Spaces • Design Goals • Establish aesthetic attraction to new spaces • Provide Adaptation at Entrances/Transition Spaces • Allows eyes to adjust to changing light levels • Create energy efficient system • Lighting to create flow for traffic • Maintain proper illuminance for activities within the space
Transition Space • Design Criteria • Power Density = 1.8 W/sqft. • Vertical Illuminance • Facial lighting = 10 fc • Horizontal Illuminance • Reading or Writing tasks = 30 fc • Traffic = 10 fc on floor
